Battery care instructions

The thru-axle and ringshifter contain rechargeable Li-Ion batteries for highest available power density in the lightest possible package. It takes roughly about 3 hours to fully charge these batteries. The battery of the thru axle lasts 3 to 6 months, an equivalent of at least 10.000 shifts. The battery of the ring shifter lasts between 4 and 12 months, an equivalent of at least 20.000 shifts.

To increase the service life of your battery powered products please find the following tips below:

  1. Charge your thru axle and ringshifter regularly. There’s no need to wait until the battery is fully depleted before you can recharge your products. The service life of Li-Ion batteries is increased if the charge level is maintained between 25% and 85%. This means also that there is no problem with partially charging your products for only 1 to 2 hours, on the contrary, this is beneficial for the battery life.
  2. Preferably charge the thru axle between in a dry environment with a temperature between 10 and 35 degrees Celsius. Li-Ion batteries should not be charged below 0 and above 45 degrees Celsius. For your safety, the thru axle will also prevent this possibility.

  3. Preferably store your products at 15-25 degrees Celsius. The higher the temperature, the faster the battery will self-discharge. In case of storage for an extended period of time, don’t charge your thru axle completely, a charge level around 50% is preferred. When the thru axle is completely empty, this means 1,5 hours of charging.

  4. Update your products to the latest firmware. We continuously try to find new ways of reducing the power used by our products, so newer versions might contain improvements to prolong the product’s battery life.

  5. After charging the thru axle, make sure the bajonet cap is installed carefully again, to make sure no water can enter the handle.

  6. Try to avoid bike transport as much as possible. Moving the bike will wake up the thru axle for some period of time and hence drain the battery while not effectively used.

  7. After long transport make sure to check the battery before use and charge if necessary. The battery level can be checked easily by using the Classified Cycling mobile app.

  8. Under normal circumstances and usage conditions, your thru axle should last in between 2-3 months before the battery is fully depleted from 100% - 0%.

  9. If your thru axle’s LED is not immediately blinking when charging, leave it charging for about 5 minutes. It can happen that the battery is “sleeping” and needs some time to be “woken up”. If this is the case you will notice that within 5 minutes the LED will slowly blink brighter and brighter.

If the LED is not blinking within 5 minutes, have a look at our trouble shooting guide before you submit a customer support request.
