Classified crank and aero chainring installation

What’s Included

  • Drive-side crank arm with RF CINCH interface and chainring lockring.

  • Non-drive-side crank arm with integrated spindle and pre-load adjustor.

  • Crankset spacers.

  • Pedal washers.

  • Classified aero chainring (sold separately and available in 46, 48, 50, 52 and 54 in drop ST and drop B version).

Step 1: Install the Chainring

Tools required: Torque wrench, ISIS bottom bracket tool.

  1. Position the chainring on the drive-side crank arm, aligning the RF CINCH interface.

  2. Ensure the Classified logo on the chainring is correctly oriented.

  3. Thread the chainring lockring by hand.

  4. Tighten the lockring to 40 Nm using an ISIS bottom bracket tool.

Step 2: Install the Crankset

Tools required: Torque wrench, 10 mm Allen key, 2 mm Allen key, assembly grease.

  1. Measure the frame’s bottom bracket width and confirm the correct spacer configuration.

  2. Tighten the pre-load adjustor until it contacts the non-drive-side crank arm.

  3. Install spindle spacers if required (according to the compatibility matrix).

  4. Ensure bearing shields are correctly installed on both sides of the bottom bracket.

  5. Apply assembly grease to:

    • Spindle bearing seats.

    • Spindle–crank interface (drive side).

  6. Insert the non-drive-side crank arm into the frame.

  7. Install any required drive-side spindle spacers.

  8. Install the drive-side crank arm, ensuring both crank arms are aligned 180° opposite.

  9. Tighten the non-drive-side crank bolt to 50 Nm.

  10. Lightly tap the drive-side crank arm until fully seated.

Step 3: Set Bearing Preload

  1. Turn the pre-load adjustor anti-clockwise until it stops or contacts the bearing shield.

  2. Secure the adjustor bolt with a 2 mm Allen key until the edges make contact.

  3. Check for play by moving the crank arms laterally.

Note: If there is play in the crankset, disassemble the crank arms and apply additional assembly grease to the axle. Tighten the pre-load adjustor anti-clockwise until it stops. Repeat the installation procedure until you have removed all play.

Final Checks

  • Install pedal washers and pedals (tighten pedals to 54 Nm, unless otherwise specified).

  • Place the chain on the chainring, aligning wide link to wide tooth.

  • Verify smooth rotation and absence of play before riding.
Note: The chainring has a narrow-wide tooth profile. For correct fitting, align the wide link of the chain with the wide tooth of the chainring.
